HAMLET/2
Let the swords fly…
Created & Directed by Linda Noveroske Rentner
Brüka Theatre proudly presents the Seventh show of its 2008/2009 season, Hamlet/2. Created and Directed by Linda Noveroske Rentner, this original work will be presented in the sub-Brüka space on Wednesdays and Sundays during July 2009.
It has long been popular in our modern world to tinker with the works of Shakespeare, slicing and dicing them in order to find something new, re-examine enduring themes, or simply get one’s hands all over that intriguing canon. Hamlet/2 is the story of two actors (Linda Noveroske Rentner and Scott Dundas) who enter into a “friendly” competition to play the title role of Hamlet, tossing that coveted privilege back and forth throughout ten of the juiciest scenes. In one act of nonstop action, the actors take Shakespeare’s work to new and uncharted depths of insanity through combat, music, dance, and gender swapping, progressively turning the friendly game into a fierce battle to seize the title role for the final scene. Presented as part of the Reno Artown Festival.
Linda Noveroske Rentner has written, directed, and/or performed in over fifty productions, including theatre, film, and television. She holds an MFA in Dramatic Art from the University of California, Davis, and studied at both the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Hamlet/2 originally premiered at UC Davis in 2002, and has seen upwards of seventy performances in various venues. She’s thrilled to bring it home to Reno!
