30th - Lesbian Discussion Group: We are changing our May meeting to a different event that should make for an interesting evening! (Jennifer Gray has graciously agreed to postpone hosting our group until sometime this fall.) May 30, the date of our last meeting until September, is the day of the newly formed Reno Gayla’s film festival. In order to support this group and give us the chance to do something “different,” we plan to go to the lesbian film being shown that day, which is at 5:30 at the movie theater on the UNR campus. We will then go to a nearby room to discuss the film, and one or more members of the film’s cast will join us! (Amanda Tremblay, who wrote and stars in the film, will be one.)
I don’t know much about the movie, other than that it is a fictitious story about an all-lesbian band (punk, I believe). You can get more info. here: http://www.velveteenmuff.com/synopsis.html
The movie costs $6, but if you are on my email list for this group AND a Spectrum member, you can get in for $5 (thanks to Angela Brooks). If you don’t belong to Spectrum, I highly suggest that you join while they are still giving free memberships for a short time yet. Go to http://www.spectrumnorthernnevada.org/join. I will give a list of names to Angela for those who should get this discount. I just had my list compared with the Spectrum list, so if you join Spectrum between now and the movie, please let me know.
Here are the event details:
–FILM TITLE: Velveteen Muff (http://www.velveteenmuff.com/synopsis.html)
–FILM TIME: 5:30 (until 7:00 or so)
–FILM LOCATION: UNR’s Joe Crowley Student Union (go north on Virginia St. off of I-80; turn right into the Whalen Parking Garage just before Lawlor Events Center or turn right onto the road just before Lawlor and park in the outside lot—the JCSU is one of the two large new buildings—the one on the left when facing them from the parking area; the movie theater is on one of the upper floors) –LDG DISCUSSION: nearby UNR College of Education room 2021—meet outside movie theater just after film to walk with me since the building will be locked (if you miss us and know where the College of Ed is two buildings south, knock on the window of the ground-level room with lights on) –MOVIE COST: $6; $5 for LDG/Spectrum members
Hope to see you May 30!
