Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it well and serenely…” I always knew I liked Emerson. I look at life like hiking, I walk along, I may stumble, miss step and falter, sometimes I forget to look around and see the beauty around me, I find myself too caught up in that past moment of stumping my toe, and how bad it hurt, dwelling on the sting. Then when I do finally look up, I see the sun shinning, the magical moment of a butterfly spreading its wings allowing the sun to shine through, bringing a kaleidoscope of color into the world. To think I almost missed that moment, and I wonder how many moments did miss, as I looked back upon that obstacle of a mere pebble. But, you can also get too caught up in what is around the next bend, and instead of stopping and observing what is right there, right now, what you already have, it is what is around the bend we think about. In Buddhism it states, “the view you have at this second, is not the same view as the next. To wonder down the path, not looking behind, nor ahead, the answer is but the question you hold.”
New Year’s eve is like any other night; there is no pause in the march of the universe, no breathless moment of silence among created things that the passage of another twelve months may be noted; and yet we all hold that night above any other night to reflect upon what the next twelve months may hold.
Realize this, my friends, you already have it. Going back to Buddha,“No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path”. So in our journey for the next twelve, we can not look back, we can not blame or praise anyone else for who we are and what we are to become, the future is with in our own hands. Do not walk back wards, dwelling on the past, but walk forward, slowly, do not race into life to life’s alternative, but savior each moment like a rich Cabernet.
So my dear friends, hold your head high, stop.. And breathe in those moments, and just say ouch when you stumble, and pick your feet a little higher, and realize this, life is grand and it is here for you.

Thanks Jodie…2009 was challenging. So I will mediate on this golden nugget that you shared: “the view you have at this second, is not the same view as the next. To wonder down the path, not looking behind, nor ahead, the answer is but the question you hold.” I’m not into resolutions, but in the spirit of the new year of 2010…I’ll give hiking a try, mediate more and refuse to look back. Because the best part about the journey of life is the process of recovering from the stumbles in life.
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendor in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind;
William Wordsworth. 1770–1850
Ode of Immortality from Recollections of Early Childhood
I’ve always loved this verse. It reminds me that nothing is constant and that the world is ever changing. Not to look behind and grieve for what is lost but to look ahead and be joyful for what is gained.
One of your best Jody…Thank you Dear Friend
